Literacy Tools

Revilo Gives, Inc. recognizes that literacy is the foundation of a child’s education and long-term success. Many students in underserved communities do not have consistent access to age-appropriate books or family support in developing strong reading skills. Through our Literacy Tools program, we provide book giveaways, reading starter kits, and host family reading nights to foster a love for reading at an early age. By creating literacy-rich environments and distributing resources directly into the hands of students and parents, we aim to close the literacy gap and promote academic achievement in homes where reading may not be prioritized due to financial or time constraints. This program also empowers parents with tools to engage in their child’s learning and support reading at home.

At Revilo Gives, Inc., we believe literacy is liberation. It is the foundation of every child’s education, self-expression, and long-term success. Yet for many students in underserved communities, books are a luxury not a given. Studies show that 61% of low-income families have no books at home, and children who are not reading proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school.

Our Literacy Tools program was created to change that narrative one book, one child, one home at a time.

We provide:

  • Free book giveaways for students of all ages

  • Reading starter kits for early learners and their families

  • Family reading nights to foster bonding and build strong literacy habits

  • Pop-up reading corners at our community events, stocked with culturally relevant and age-appropriate books

  • Literacy tips and toolkits for parents, helping them confidently support reading at home even if they’re not avid readers themselves

By distributing books and literacy resources directly into the hands of students, caregivers, and classrooms, we aim to nurture a love for reading and create literacy-rich environments at home. For some children, our books are the first they’ve ever owned and that moment of ownership often sparks a lifelong relationship with learning.

“We’re not just handing out books. We’re handing out belief in potential, imagination, and the power of words.”

We envision a future where every child, regardless of income or zip code, has the opportunity to read, dream, and succeed. Through Literacy Tools, we’re helping families turn the page toward brighter futures.

Literacy Tip Sheet for Parents

Helping Your Child Become a

Lifelong Reader

1. Read Together Daily

Set aside just 15–20 minutes a day to read with your child. Make it a cozy, quiet time,

even bedtime stories count! The routine builds language, focus, and connection.

2. Let Your Child Choose the Book

Children are more engaged when they can read what interests them. Comic books, magazines, and picture books all count as reading!

3. Talk About the Story

Ask open-ended questions:

  • “What do you think will happen next?”

  • “Why did that character feel sad?”

  • “What would you do if you were in the story?”

This boosts comprehension and critical thinking.

4. Keep Books Within Reach

Make books easily accessible around the house. A basket in the living room, a shelf in the bedroom—even a car book bag for reading on the go!

5. Be a Reading Role Model

Let your child see you reading too whether it's a book, recipe, or newspaper. Kids who see adults read are more likely to enjoy reading themselves.

6. Make Reading Part of Everyday Life

Read signs, food labels, menus, or instructions aloud together. It teaches kids that reading is useful and fun.

7. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection

Encourage effort, not just correctness. Celebrate when your child finishes a book or tries a new word—confidence builds skill!

Remember: You don’t have to be a perfect reader to raise one. Your time, encouragement, and attention matter most.
